
Our first trip from IJmuiden to Scheveningen (The Hague) was our first sea going passage. We left early in the morning with little traffic (only a few big ships coming from or going to Amsterdam). However, we were a little surprised by the sea state. From the breakwater onwards we noticed bigger swell than usual. It must’ve been that the higher winds from the previous days were still having an effect on the waves of the North Sea amounting up to 2m.
Only with the main sail up because we were sailing dead down wind, we were making good speeds. Though the waves overtaking us from the back were neither liked by André nor Simba. Only our XO had no issues with sea sickness (as usual).
After little while both cat and Captain were growing their sea legs. Conditions were stable making it an easy sail into port. We arrived at around lunch had a good spot and almost but only almost had our first evening without heating on 🥶
We had already pre-cooked melanzane alla parmigiana, did some grocery shopping at the impressive Jumbo super store and went to bed early! The next day should be our yet longest sail …
