Step 18: Saint Quay

Today’s trip was a short journey to get into the hang of (motor-) sailing again! We covered approximately 25nm and left at 08:15. There was no wind forecasted and the only winds which we were experiencing were straight on the nose.

On the way we rounded another cape which was dotted with little fisher boats. We cruised along with Simba‘s new dog friends and their owners. However, due to their bigger boat and their riskier approach in crossing rocky patches, they were soon out of sight.

Additionally, we feel that it’s time to leave the channel. As the name suggests the wind has a tendency to channel along in either one direction (west or east). In our case that has been mainly wind against us. If the winds were right, then mostly to strong or right from astern: another unfavourable direction for our boat.

Anyways, Simba slept for most of the trip, while Lisa and André enjoyed the views of the coastline and discussed plans and ideas for the coming days. That is, because Lisa’s parents are around and we are timing good spots for several rendezvous points without stressing ourselves.

As St Quay will be a rather short stop (we are leaving tomorrow at 6), we have to judge from a distance: not as picturesque as St Cast but with all the amenities and shops a sailor needs. Definitely worth a visit to head to the beach, fish market or into town!

In our case, the galley will stay cold tonight and we will head out for a simple dinner only to crawl back into our cabins early.

Good night!
