Entering the Bay of Biscay!
We left beautiful Morgat heading for the last French mainland cape for a while (so we think at least): Raz du Seine.
It was to promise – again – temperamental local winds and strange currents that can together form steep waves and leave you feeling like you fell into a washing machine.
We timed our arrival on the minute just when the tide was about to change into our favourable direction. Nevertheless, the wind shifted and was blowing rather gnarly from the front. Hence, back into the washing machine we went.
Making the passage through the Raz du Seine marked a major milestone: we made it into the Bay of Biscay!
For the rest of the day the wind forecast promised no wind at all. We were however stunned by rather strong wind from the absolutely wrong direction, which was not supposed to exist at all. Well, it existed and the North Atlantic Ocean was teaching us a first lesson. Roci took it like a champ and was flying along on her favourite course close hauled to the wind. The only one of the crew who had enough with washing machines and then being tossed in a steeply tilted boat was Simba. He had enough and demanded special attention from his favourite human and to receive his favourite treat: organic ham.
Eventually, the wind died down and we were properly welcomed by a full school of dolphins racing around us! Another lesson from the beautiful ocean!
We arrived in Lesconil, a sleepy fishing port, in the evening and all had a moment of calmness after the rather eventful day. Simba found his peace by watching the lovely birds and chilling on all of his favourite spots, while his humans enjoyed the quiet calmness of a nonchalant fishing village.
Tomorrow, we are off again further south-west on the Atlantic Ocean!
