Welcome to paradise!
We made it to our first islands offshore. This is one of those places that you have in mind when making plans to go sail across Europe.
There is not much infrastructure on the nine tiny islands and tourists consist mainly of day trippers that get carted to the main island by ferry. Other than that, the Glénan islands have been home to the Glénans sailing school since it was founded in 1947, which has produced some of the world’s best sailors. One can see the sailing school vessels darting to and from the various islands all day and the vibe is very laid back with its single bar and one restaurant on the main island.
We arrived before lunch, caught one of the mooring buoys in-front of the beach and had to take a breath. We had been battling against clod wind and waves for the past month, sitting inside with our heating on and solving multiple mathematical puzzles getting the tidal streams correctly all for reaching places like this. We are immensely grateful.
The days in the bay were spent by jumping into the still freezing water, walking across the tiny main island and simply enjoying life on board without any obligation to be anywhere.
