Lunch spot with a view and a perfect stopover for the night.
While the summer weather was treating us with beautiful sunshine and limited wind, we decided to have a stopover for lunch and a swim at Brittany’s most beautiful beach. Île d’Houat is famous for its long sandy beaches and for us it was the perfect panorama for surviving through the heat of the day.
While gliding through the calm sea, we realised that very few boats continued further south with us and the buzzing busyness of southern Brittany was slowly lessening. Fewer boats were visible on the AIS and then we heard for the first time the Spanish coastguard on the radio. The first signs of our next milestones it seems.
We continued the trip to Piriac sur Mer on the mainland, just a stopover for the night. The little town was charming and the harbour offered everything a sailor needs for a night’s stopover: clean showers and good modern facilities.
The plan is to continue sailing to Île d’Yeu the next day to again enjoy island life and to sit out some stormy weather that is predicted for later this week. Also, we will slowly start preparing for the jump across the pond toward Spain in the coming weeks as soon as there is a suitable weather window for us. Until then, we will keep heading south along the French Atlantic “Loire” and “Vendée” coast, having left beautiful Brittany behind.
