Step 1: Leaving Hoorn

It’s almost a week ago that we moved from Amsterdam onto the boat. Our apartment is in good hands and we left Amsterdam with a smile on a sunny day! It took us a few days to arrive and prepare such as checking the rigging, cleaning and polishing the boat and stocking up on food and drinks. Then from Thursday on, the first of you started to arrive for the party on Saturday, so the shore based crew had been growing to more than 40 of you joining us for our goodbye at Huiskamer in our home port in Hoorn. It was a lovely feestje, and quite a group decided to go on dancing and drinking in Hoorn until early morning: we successfully painted our helmets.

That’s why we didn’t make our departure on Sunday and postponed with another day allowing us a another goodbye dinner with the parents. After all the social interactions it took us some time to recharge our batteries and rewind. Here we are today (Monday), still a bit socially hung over but immensely grateful for all the support, friendship and love we have received.

That said, it’s about time to leave. We have completed the first household duties (restocking and laundry) and even did a yoga practice together balancing in-between the geese and what they have left behind. The wind is expected to decrease tomorrow, so that we can departure in calmer weather (without the nasty guts) and get the hang of sailing again.

On behalf of crew and ship,

André
